In some threads, I have read that MAC has a better internal audio chipset, but this advantage would be negated if I buy an external audio interface on a PC. The general view seems to be that “MACs are better designed for music†but that ultimately you can get the same from a well specced PC. Without going into a big Mac/PC debate, are there any inherent advantages in choosing Mac over PC? As the laptop will also be my main computer, I am planning to spend a fair amount on it.Īfter reading articles and threads, here are my doubts: My goal is therefore to buy a laptop which allows me to run Ivory seamlessly, as if it was an internal sound on my Kawai. I own a Kawai MP9500 which I would like to use as a controller, as I find the action and the keys are quite good. I have not chosen the software yet but let’s assume, as an example, I choose a big piano library like Synthogy Ivory. Status Quo: I have never used a virtual piano before and I am not very knowledgeable about electronics, I have just been reading a lot of threads here and on other sites. In that case, please forgive my long post and just point me to it. If I similar thread already exists, I must have missed it during my search. I would like to run a software piano (of the sampled variety) on a laptop and, while I have found lots of good info on this site both on the choice between different softwares and on general technical requirements to run them efficiently, comments about using these virtual instruments on a laptop seem to be more sparse.Īs I believe there is quite a few people out there who would like to run a virtual instrument on a laptop (because they want to own just a laptop and/or appreciate the portability for occasional live performance but are not professionals who play live too often), I thought about asking you suggestions on how to configure a laptop for virtual piano use so that this thread might also become useful as a reference for other potential VST - laptop users. I am new to pianoworld and I have been enjoying the informative threads a lot recently.
